Danica Williams
Danica N. Williams is a writer and educator. She works to inspire a whole new generation to love reading and writing. As a child Danica was a poor reader and was pulled from class daily for reading intervention. What could have been a negative experience turned out to be a life changing experience. While other children felt stigmatized by attending remedial reading classes daily, Danica formed a special bond with her reading teacher, Ms. Alcott, and flourished in what she felt was a safe learning environment. In addition to the time that Danica was pulled for reading intervention class daily, she also enjoyed spending her recess and lunch time in reading class with Ms. Alcott. Once her mother was contacted by Ms. Alcott and made a part of the learning process by reading with Danica nightly, Danica went from being a poor reader to an advanced reader. Soon Danica went from spending her free time reading books to spending her free time writing stories and poems. In high school she took advanced English courses and when she graduated she went on to attend an HBCU, where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in English Arts. She then earned a Master's Degree in English, with an emphasis in creative writing.
Danica never forgot the positive impact that one teacher could have on the life of a child. She decided that she wanted to be an inspiration for children as well and earned her teaching credential in order to achieve that goal. "Who knows where I would be if it had not been for the patience and guidance of Ms. Alcott? She was an amazing teacher. Hopefully I can be for my students what Ms. Alcott was for me. I can't wait for the day when I encounter a former student and learn that he or she is living a life that they are proud of and has achieved their goals."
